How the Tournament Works
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is the largest in history — 48 nations compete across the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.
48 teams are split into 12 groups of 4. Each team plays 3 matches. The top 2 from every group advance, plus 8 best third-placed teams — 32 teams in total.
The first knockout round. Win or go home. Matches can be decided by extra time and penalties if level after 90 minutes.
The field narrows to 8. These are often the defining matches of the tournament — the moments that make legends.
The last four teams battle it out. The final is at MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey on July 19, 2026.
Unlike previous tournaments, the expanded 48-team format means more upsets, more nations, and more football than ever before.
